Juan Cruz

January 10, 1941 — July 1, 2023

Juan "Guanni" Cruz, born January 10, 1941, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023, in Jackson, New Jersey, after a long battle with advanced dementia. Known for his loving, funny, and thoughtful nature, Juan brought joy and laughter to everyone he crossed paths with.

Juan was the beloved son of Basilo and Tomasa Cruz. He was also the cherished husband of the late Maria Zoe (Collazo) Cruz, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and happiness. Guanni was the proud father of Jean Cruz-Rivera (Eddie Rivera), Melissa Cruz-Nagelbush, Emely Cruz-Rivera (Robin Rivera), and Jason Cruz (Wanda Cruz). He was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren - Justin R. Santiago, Jonathan P. Santiago, the late Christopher T. Rivera, Jasmine Z. Poventud, Jacob M. Rivera, Joshua R. Poventud, Jillian A. Cruz, Jordan T. Cruz, and Jackson W. Cruz. Juan also had the privilege of being a great-grandfather to Matthew A. Santiago.

Juan dedicated a significant part of his life to his career at Goya Foods Inc., where he worked for 40 years. His colleagues remember him as a diligent and reliable individual who always brought a sense of camaraderie to the workplace. His work ethic and dedication significantly contributed to the company's success and left a lasting legacy.

A devout Mets fan, Juan had a strong love for baseball. He also had a passion for dancing, a skill he learned in his beloved Puerto Rico and carried with him throughout his life. Juan’s love for gardening was evident in the beautiful blooms and lush greenery that adorned his home. A man of many interests, Juan also enjoyed traveling, exploring new cultures, and creating memories with his loved ones. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family, who were the heart of his world.

Juan’s life was a testament to his loving, funny, and thoughtful nature. His love for his family was immense, and he brought joy and laughter wherever he went. His thoughtfulness was evident in the way he always put others before himself, making everyone feel special and loved. Juan’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Juan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will forever live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have known him. His laughter, love, and kindness will be remembered by all, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Juan Cruz, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, will forever be in our hearts.  Donations may be made to Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown PA OR Alzheimer's Association, 23 Vreeland Road, Suite 105, Florham Park NJ 07932
