Adriana M. Beumée

November 26, 1940 — July 9, 2022

Adriana Beume, loving and devoted mother, daughter, wife and grandmother transitioned to eternal life on July 9, 2022 with her daughters by her side. She was 81 years old.

Adriana was born in San Giorgio a Liri in the picturesque province of Frosinone, Italy. She was a precocious child who, together with her family, endured tremendous hardship at an early age. They were displaced when their small, farming village was bombed and allied forces mobilized there in WWII. Just as she observed her mother overcome and persevere with three young children, Adriana adopted a similar, unwavering faith and determination to do the same in life. She came to America when she was 12 years old and was especially proud to have learned the English language and grammar better than her fellow American students whose yearbook later designated her as the girl with the "winning smile." She was an exceptional student and was the only one who could recite the entire Preamble verbatim--a far cry from our newest Americans today. She was attractive, exceedingly smart, strongly intuitive, sensitive, and a gifted creative writer. Like the curious dichotomy of life, she was also feisty, fiery, and could argue a heated debate that would give Lincoln-Douglas a run for their money! She came to speak 5 languages, including Latin, with the dream of one day working at the UN as an interpreter. She excelled at anything to which she put her mind and this culminated in her qualifying for a scholarship at NYU as well as a full scholarship to Montclair State University. However, having been raised in the Traditionalist Generation, young Adriana considered work a privilege instead of going to college. Through sheer tenacity and her academic acumen, she impressed a manager at the NJ Bell Telephone Co. and was hired despite the fact they were no longer accepting applications. She worked there on/off for approximately 20 years.

With her mother being a masterful seamstress, Adriana placed high value in her fashion style and was always superbly put together in her younger years. As a result, she enjoyed things of fine quality and that which demonstrated sublime talent. This was reflected in most of her choices in life while she delicately entwined them around the simplicity of her practical lifestyle. She came to cherish her home in coastal Ogunquit, ME with her beloved, second husband, Gary, and family. In addition to the beach, she also liked cute/chunky babies, animals, literature and poetry, a well written movie and score -- some best-loved music artists were Johnny Mathis and Barbara Streisand. In later years, she found amusement in playing solitaire and collecting chips at the occasional, high-energy craps table!

Adriana's favorite pastime was spending long periods with her two daughters and their families. She found much satisfaction in keeping a lovely, meticulously clean home, providing the best for her daughters and being generous to the point of self-sacrifice. She instilled all that was important and led by example with faith, education, and moral standards. Regardless of a rigorous work commute and often exhaustion from a hard day's work, she always prioritized her time to arrange healthy meals and help with homework. She was actually so good at assisting with studies, her kids often nudged her to do the whole assignment because it was a guaranteed 'A' ! An evening would also not pass without tucking the young ones in bed, saying prayers and her capping off with "Have a good night's sleep and God Bless You." A summer never went by without a choice vacation destination. All-around, Adriana was quite conscientious whereby her daughters truly grew up with the impression they were rich although Adriana had only earned average wages as a single mother at that time.

Being otherwise healthy and on no medications, with much dismay and anguish, Adriana's family recently came to learn her stomach had been susceptible to ample physical pain and deterioration for quite some time. The physicians were actually "bewildered" how strongly she functioned the way she did when most anyone would have been literally knocked off their feet. Pain masks itself as anger. Oh, how the admonition to walk a mile in someone else's shoes recurrently echoes. As a bewitching wave rises dramatically with its thunderous roar, tumultuous surface, demanding presence and salty tides, there's nevertheless innate beauty to be well appreciated in its undertones and pure essence.

Mom, thank you for all your sacrifice. You were greatly loved. You will be greatly missed. Until we connect again, "Have a good night's sleep and God Bless You."

Adriana was the beloved wife of the late J. Gary Beumee, Sr.;
loving mother to Karyn DeBalfo-Ambrosio and her husband, Lou, Denise DeBalfo and her fiance, Rick; cherished grandmother of Karis Adriana Mary Ambrosio; dear sister of Rosalba Flynn, John Leone and his wife, Claudia.

In lieu of flowers, we know Adriana would love and appreciate a donation to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, her favorite charity.
