ANNA MARIE (Goione) ROTONDA Ed.D., former MAYOR of FAIRFIELD

Anna Marie Rotonda succumb to a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Dr. Anna Marie Rotonda was an Educator and a Leader. Born and raised in Newark she was a long time resident of Fairfield. She earned her Doctorate Degree in Education from Fordham University in NYC. She was an educator at heart, starting as a teacher and curriculum chairman at West Orange High School before advancing to be the Director of Special Services, Director of Pupil Services as well as the Director of Guidance at Emerson Public Schools. Before she retired, she was Elementary Principal at Banyan School in Fairfield as well an Adjunct Professor at William Paterson University . In her retirement Dr. Rotonda served as Interim Director of Special Services at Montville Public Schools. Dr. Rotonda was a member of the West Essex Regional School District Board of Education for 12 years where she served as President; she was a Councilwoman in Fairfield before becoming the first female Mayor of Fairfield for 2 terms. She served on the Board of Commissioners for Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital and was a member of the West Essex Campus Advisory Board of Trustees at Essex County College. She was once president of the Fairfield Woman's Club, Past Lions Club member, Past President of the Order of the Sons of Italy, a founding member of the St. Gerard Lodge in North Jersey, and a founding member of the DaVinci Lodge. She was a dedicated Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Holy Angels in Little Falls.
Anna Marie and Husband Jerry recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 29. Anna Marie died Saturday at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Jerry, children Jennifer Rotonda, Anna Marie Strand (husband David), Yvonne Smogard (husband David), Gerard Rotonda III and Lauren Barbelet (husband Kevin) and grandchildren Jennifer, Allen, Michael, Gianna, Joseph, David, Arianna Noel, Vincent, Chloe, Charlotte, Alexandra and Stephen.

Funeral Friday at 9AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield, NJ. Funeral Mass 10AM Our Lady of Holy Angles, Little Falls, NJ. Friends will be received Wednesday & Thursday 5-9PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dr. Rotonda's name to: Our Lady of Holy Angels, 465 Main Street, Little Falls, NJ 07424.
