Mendola, Anthony, 80, of Fairfield, NJ passed away at home on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Tony was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Carmella (nee Cantrella) Mendola. Surviving are his wife of 55 years Jeanette (nee Darpino) and daughters Susan & her husband Dean Angelo and Michelle & her husband Mark Taylor. He was the loving brother to Jimmy, Barbara Corbo, Leonard and Artie. Tony was a special "Papa" to grandchildren Jhett & Raeya Angelo and Michael & Steven Taylor. Tony was born in Newark, NJ and resided in Fairfield. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. and served in the Korean War. He worked in construction and later was employed by the County of Essex. He was an avid motorcyclist and belonged to many clubs including the Blue Nights where he served as Chapter 7 president for a number of years. He was an active member of the Township of Fairfield serving as a Special in the Township Police Department and as a court attendant and Emergency Management Coordinator. He had many other hobbies and interests such as hunting, fishing, scuba diving, restoring antique motorcycles and model airplanes. Tony could often be found in his garage working on one of the many Harley's he had over the years. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the funeral 9AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield, NJ. A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More R.C. Church at 10AM on Wednesday. Interment to follow Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or st.jude.org in memory of Anthony Mendola.
