Benjamin Capaccio

Benjamin Capaccio, died August 1, 2005 in Hamilton Square, NJ where he has lived for the past 5 years. Born in Lyndhurst, NJ, he lived there for 80 years. He was born to Matteo and Maria (nee Fusco) Capaccio 85 years ago. He graduated from Lyndhurst High School in 1939. Ben was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran who was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sgt. He was Director of Sales & Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Weyerhaeuser Co. of Tacoma, Washington for 15 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of AWW Lewandowski Post #20 Amvets of Lyndhurst, NJ where he was a founding member and Commander in 1949, 1961, 1962, and a coach of their Little League team. He was a member for over 40 years of the Lyndhurst Elks BPOE #1505. Ben founded the Lyndhurst AARP #4319 and served as President for 2 terms and also served on the Legislative Liason for the National AARP in Washington, DC. A former member of the Lyndhurst Planning Board, Ben was also inducted into the Nick DeLeo Hall of Fame. He attended classes at Stevens Institute of Technology and the American Management Association and received certification from Rutgers University in AHERA. He was the Asbestos Manager for the Lyndhurst Board of Education. Ben is survived by his beloved wife Dolores (nee Tessalone) and loving daughter Mia Pelosci and her husband Michael of Hamilton Square, NJ. He was much loved by his grandaughter Ariana Helen Pelosci. Surviving also are his sisters Josephine Abate LoGatto of Fairfield, NJ and Connie Noreiko-DeLisi of Flagler Beach, FL and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Virginia and Walter Kelly of Doylestown, PA, Howard and the late Ann Tirgrath of Las Vegas, NV, Denise Tessalone and the late Michael of Torrance, CA and Sally Tessalone and the late Robert of Rutherford, NJ. He was loved by his nephews Joseph and George Abate & their families, BethAnn Makowski, David, and Robert Kelly & their families, Ava, Lori and Tami Tirgrath & their families and Tim Tessalone. The funeral will be on Friday at 8am from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home 425 Ridge Rd. Lyndhurst, NJ with a 9am Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church in Lyndhurst. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 & 7-10pm.Donations may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, National Hdq., Bob Hope Parkinson Center, 1501 Northwest 9th Ave., Bob Hope Rd.
