Carolyn Centonze

Carolyn Centonze (nee DeVirgilio),90, of Fairfield, N.J., passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. "Carol" was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and took great pride in her Italian heritage. The consummate Italian mother and grandmother, her Sunday dinners were traditional feasts enjoyed by her family. Carol was an avid bowler and master solver of word puzzles. She was the beloved wife of 62 years of the late Leonard Centonze. Loving mother of Lynn Centonze (Anne Lonergan) and Denise Centonze D'Agosto. Cherished grandmother of Michele, Anthony and Nicholas (Jennifer). Adored great-grandmother of Giannah and Brianna. Dear sister of Arthur DeVirgilio (Aggie). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was lovingly cared for by Neila"Nell" Kelshaw who became a part of the family. Carol and her husband were founding parishioners of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Fairfield, N.J. Carol lent her beautiful voice to the church choir for decades and was a long-time member of the Rosary Society. Friends will be received on Thursday from 3-7PM. Funeral service will be held Friday 9AM from Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, Friday at 10AM. Entombment Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
