Elaine Mitchell

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Elaine C. Mitchell, a cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a dedicated nurse, who departed this life peacefully on February 10, 2025, at the age of 92. Elaine and her husband, George, raised their 7 children in Lyndhurst before moving to Hilton Head Island South Carolina, where they resided for 35 years. 

Elaine dedicated her career to nursing, working as an LPN at Passaic General Hospital and in private practice. She received her degree as a registered nurse and began working as a case manager for a home health care provider in South Orange before moving to South Carolina. Elaine was a Parish nurse at St. Andrews by the Sea Church on Hilton Head Island, then was a Hospice nurse until retiring. Elaine found joy in caring for others and making a meaningful impact in their lives.

Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George S. Mitchell (2/12/15), and sons, Bruce (6/11/17) and David (6/05/22).

Elaine is survived by her loving children, Laura Settembrino, Ruthann Bocage and her husband George, George Mitchell and his wife Janet, Alice Ryan and her husband Jay, and Janet Catanese and her husband James. She is adored by her grandchildren, Marc Settembrino, Ricky Settembrino, Lindsay Spaulding, Jay Ryan, Rachel Bocage and David Mitchell. Elaine is also a great-grandmother to Colton Settembrino and Spruce Mulleavey.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 13th, 2025 from 4:00pm-6:00pm in Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst. Cremation private.

In this time of sorrow, we find peace in the beautiful memories Elaine leaves behind-a testament to her extraordinary life and love she so freely shared. We invite all whose lives were touched by Elaine to join us in remembering her remarkable journey and the light she brought into our lives.
