Frank J. Hahofer

Frank J. Hahofer, 103, of West Caldwell formerly of Clifton, NJ departed this life on Saturday, February 18, 2017. He is survived by his devoted son Dennis (Lia) Hahofer. A proud grandfather of Paul and Jeffrey (Adriana) Hahofer and his two adoring great-grandchildren Riley & Paige. Frank is also survived by nephews Robert (Pat) Marosits and William Marosits, niece Elaine (Aaron) Fuchs and cousins Arnold Schmidig and Rose Kanz. Frank was predeceased by his adorable wife Lydia Hahofer of 74 years. He is predeceased by his parents Katherine (Juschitsch) Hahofer and Johann Hahofer and sister Mary Marosits. At the young age of 14 he found a job at Dellagrave Engraving Company in Newark. Little did he know that this would lead him to own his own business. Over the years, he found jobs at National Silk and Die Works in East Paterson and then Kruger's Engraving Company in Garfield. This is where he met a friend in 1940 who would become his partner in their Textile Engraving Company. They named their company Central Engraving and ran it at various Paterson locations before retiring from it in 1973 in Hawthorne. Both in business and leisure Frank was bold and adventurous. In 1946 he earned his pilot's license and would call on clients up and down the East Coast. He flew until the mid 1980's. In 1938 he decided he should be a director of the Great American Building and Loan Association. He lost by five votes. Undeterred he ran again and was elected director on January 1, 1939. In 1941 it was absorbed into the East Clifton Building and Loan Association, which eventually became Clifton Savings Bank. Frank was Chairman for 10 years and retired in 2007 after 68 years as a director. At 99 Frank flew his last plane ride and two months shy of his 100th birthday he was best man at his grandson Jeffrey's wedding in May 2013. At Frank's request there will be no viewing and creamtion will be private. Arrangements under the direction of Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield.
