Fred Costanzo, 82, of Fairfield, New Jersey passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the VA Medical Center in Lyons, NJ. Fred was a US Navy veteran, serving from 1954-1962, notably aboard the USS Casa Grande when crossing the Arctic Circle. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and remained proud to serve and support his country and fellow veterans. After leaving the military, Fred founded the well-known Freddies Barber Shop in East Hanover, NJ, and had been a fixture and source of friendship in the community and surrounding towns for over 50 years. He was an ardent supporter of state and local police charities, as well as local Little Leagues to inspire children with a passion for baseball.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, and his children, Michele (Andrews) of Mendham, NJ, Christopher Costanzo of Fairfield, NJ, and Debbie (Paulhus) of Little Falls, NJ, along with his loving and devoted grandchildren, Michael (Andrews), Nicole, and Amanda, and his great-grandson, Liam. Fred is also survived by his dear brother, Richard Costanzo and his wife, Susan, of Locust Grove, VA, and his sister-in-law, Elaine Costanzo, of Somerset, NJ. He loved and cherished his late brother, Salvatore, and all of his nephews and extended family. Friends will be received Sunday, 12 to 4 pm at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield, with services at 3:30 pm.
