Ambrosio, Gabriel M., 74, of Lyndhurst, NJ on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Beloved life partner of Joan Scerbo. Loving father of Courtney & her husband Joseph Zaccaro and Kristen & her husband Boris Hardouin. Dear brother of Michael, Anthony, George & John Ambrosio and Celeste Lewis. Cherished grandfather of Isabella Ambrosio and Sophia & Joseph Zaccaro. Mr. Ambrosio received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his law degree from Seton Hall University. He was a partner at Ambrosio & Ambrosio in Lyndhurst for 50 years. He was cofounder, past president and legal counsel to South Bergen Mental Health which later became Comprehensive Behavioral Health Care. He was counsel to Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission for over 25 years. Gabe was the township attorney and Planning Board attorney for Lydhurst, and was a member of the Democratic Municipal Committee where he served as chairman for many years. From 1985-1991, he was New Jersey State Senator for District 36 which encompassed Bergen, Passaic, and Essex counties. He chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee; Health, Institutions, & Welfare Committee; and Children Services Committee. He was the sponsor of The Living Will Legislation which allows dying with dignity. He was a strong advocate for children, workers, patient, & gay rights. He also was a vocal advocate for gun control and prison, hospital, and auto insurance reform. He was a member of the East End Democratic Club and the Glen Ridge Country Club. Funeral service Wednesday at 11 AM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Friends will be received Tuesday 2-5 & 7-9 PM.
