Graciela Espinoza-Vera

Graciela Espinoza, beloved mother and grandmother from East Rutherford, NJ went to heaven on July 25, 2019 at the age of 96.

She was born in Ecuador on February 10, 1923. She grew up in poverty, and while life in Ecuador provided joys it did not provide opportunities. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 43, and a few years later she lost her husband Fernando Hidalgo to a car accident. In the face of tragedy and fear she trusted in God and moved forward without a roadmap but with faith that she would be able to find her way. She persevered, and her legacy is her family.

Graciela had an infectious laugh and capricious sense of humor that balanced her direct and practical approach to life. She loved to sing, and to be around her for any length of time was to hear her voice in song. Her biggest passion was family, and she loved nothing more than cooking for and spending time with them. Affectionately addressed as Mamita Querida or “Quida”, her greatest achievement was making every member of her family feel singular, important, and loved.

She is survived by her 7 children: Graciela Haz, Robert E. Hidalgo, Sonia Cabrera, Brenda Garcia, Luis F. Hidalgo, Annabelle Tenreiro, Marisol Durak, and her loving children-in-law; her 15 grandchildren: Carlos Haz, Julie Aguilar, Priscilla Sanders, Patricia Cook, Alex Alvarado, Anthony Garcia, Christine Haz, Melissa Hidalgo, Robert K. Hidalgo, Cindy Alvarado, Daniel Garcia, Robert Tenreiro, Marc Garcia, Jacqueline Tenreiro, Amanda Durak; her 2 sisters Violeta Pastorek and Celeste Espinoza and many adored great grandchildren. She joins her beloved Fernando Hidalgo and her sisters, Esther Maria Espinoza, Olga Manuela Espinoza, Gloria Edelmira Wiesner, Clemencia Azucena de Foyain, and Maria Esther de Carriel, and her dear granddaughter, Caroline Hidalgo, in heaven.

Visitation Monday 9AM-12Noon at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst. Funeral Service 10AM at the funeral home. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Graciela's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
