He was dispatched overseans to the Pacific Theatre in May of 1942, proudly serving with the 6th Army in New Guinea, the Philippines and Australia. In 1944, General Douglas MacArthur planned for the invasion of the Philippines. MacArthur required precise maps of Leyte and the originals only existed for the 6th Army. Having great artistic talent, Harold volunteered to draw and sketch precise maps that MacArthur required. These were used by MaArthur and his staff in October of 1944 and are now part of the United States Presidential Library Collection. Upon his return to the US in late 1945, Mr. Heyler worked for Western Electric (later ATT Technologies) and retired in 1986.
