McCrea, Jean A. (nee Mertz), 85, of Lyndhurst, NJ on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Beloved Wife of the late John McCrea. Loving Mother of Rev. Doctor Carla & her Husband John Stengel and Anita McCrea-Delaney & her Husband Steve Delaney. Dear Sister of Grace & her Husband the late Michael Trembulak. Cherished Grandmother Erin Stengel, John Elliott Stengel & Christopher Delaney. Devoted Aunt of Karen & her Husband Joe St. Onge, and Lynn Coleman-Kirk & her Husband John Kirk. Adored Great Aunt of Kevin Lowry, Karrie Lowry & Kim Coleman. Dear Friend of Georgianna Wilken. Mrs. McCrea was employed by NJ Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a customer service specialist, advancing to serve corporate accounts. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Kearny, NJ. She had a long period of service to the Lyndhurst community. She was president of the Roosevelt School PTA, a Girl Scout Assistant Leader, Assistant Director of Project Crop Walk, co-founder and president of the Lyndhurst Culture and Arts Committee. Jean was South Bergen Chapter Chairman of the Inter-religious Fellowship, a group formed to aid homeless people. She acted as night chaperon at shelters maintained in local churches. She also oversaw the preparation, cooking and delivery of hot meals to the homeless at Bergen County's facility in Hackensack once each month for 10 years. Jean joined the Lyndhurst Woman's Club in 1957 and was still supporting this organization strongly as president. In addition to her membership locally, she served two years on the Executive Committee of the NJ State Federation of Woman's Clubs and two years as 8th District Vice President and International Affairs Chairman. She had received her 50 year pin from the General Federation. Among the many Woman's Club projects Jean had worked on over the years were, helping with domestic violence awareness, assistance & support of veterans, and on the recent Autism State Project. In May, 2008 she was honored to receive the Lyndhurst Historical Society Award for Volunteerism. Funeral Saturday at 10AM officiated by Rev. Nick Connelly at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ. Cremation at East Ridgelawn Crematory. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
