Jennie Shafer

Jennie Shafer, 93, of East Rutherford has passed away very peacefully in her sleep early Christmas morning. She was born at home in Belleville, New Jersey on May 25, 1929 to Frances & Domenick Bonfante. Loving mother of Jean Marie Callandrello, Frances Shafer, Donna Shafer and Donald Shafer, Jr. Cherished grandmother of Jacqueline Ferdinandi, Jenna Abeloe, Gerald Shafer, Joseph Callandrello, Christina Shafer and Domenick Shafer. Adored great-grandmother of Rino Ferdinandi, Roman Abeloe, Luca Abeloe and Vanessa Ferdinandi. Dear sister of Connie DePalma and the late Nicholas Bonfante. Devoted aunt of Donnie DePalma, Marea DePalma, Daniel DePalma, Nicholas Bonfante Jr., and Bobby Bonfante. Jennie was known to be a hard worker, trustworthy, kind-hearted, and always willing to help someone. After graduating Belleville High School, Jennie started her career as an underwriter and was an extremely valued employee at every company she had ever worked at up until her retirement at Equipment Sales & Service well into her 80's. She married Donald Shafer on May 14, 1958. They had 4 children - Jean Marie, Frances, Donna and Donald Jr. Jennie was an extremely talented seamstress, cook, baker and artist with a passion for reading, writing and learning. She did not travel much in her later years, but spent all her free time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who lived near her. She was a courageous, loving woman with an infectious sense of humor. Jennie prided herself on her Italian culture, her commitment to her family and her love for the Lord. Funeral Friday 9AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral Mass 10AM Sacred Heart R.C. Church. Entombment Glendale Cemetery Mausoleum, Bloomfield. Friends will be received Thursday 4-8PM.
