Joan Acuna

Joan E. (nee McGarry) Acuna, 89, of Nutley, New Jersey entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 14, 2024.  

Devoted daughter of the late John and Lillian (Messer) McGarry. Loving mother of Linda and her husband Chris Eli. Cherished grandmother of Christopher Jr. and Allison Eli. Wife of the late Anthony Acuna. Dear sister of Kathleen Rinaldi, and the late John McGarry, Ronald McGarry, Marian Cortazzo, and Lorraine D’Amore. Sister-in-law of Madeleine McGarry and Barbara McGarry. Adoring aunt of many nieces, nephews, and their children.

Joan enjoyed reading, watching game shows, and cheering on her favorite team, the NY Yankees. She had a sweet tooth and was never without her Tic Tacs. Our fondest memories of Joan include dancing at family parties, trips to Connecticut, LBI, and the Safari at Great Adventure. Her kind heart, beautiful smile and infectious laugh will be missed. Nothing brought Joan greater joy than spending time with family, and Sunday gatherings at her mom and dad’s were the best! 

Born in Newark, Joan moved to Nutley several years ago. Joan was a bookkeeper at Fidelity National Financial in Roseland for many years before retiring in 2000.  

Family and friends will be received Sunday, December 22nd, 3-6PM. Funeral Monday, December 23rd, at 9AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Funeral Mass Monday 10AM Sacred Heart Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
