John R Mcgarry

John Raymond McGarry, 84, of Lyndhurst, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 23, 2017 in his home.

John was born in Newark, NJ, on March 12, 1933 to John and Lillian (Messer) McGarry. He moved to Lyndhurst where he was a resident for the past 44 years. John served for the United States Army during the Korean war. He was a corrections officer for the Essex County Jail and retired as a sergeant after 31 years of service. He then worked as a security supervisor for Gucci. John was a humble man who will always be remembered for his kindness. He had a strong passion for horse racing, and enjoyed outings to Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands. He was happiest spending time with his grandchildren, and loved attending their sporting events.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Madeleine (McDermott) McGarry; his beloved children, John McGarry and his wife Donna, Colleen Stanchfield and her husband Jim, Susan Anzano and her husband Andrew, and Karen Pimentel and her husband Altino. John was blessed with seven grandchildren who adored him; Julia, Nicholas, Ashley, Jonathan, Grace, Brianna, and Mackenzie. John is also survived by his loving sisters Marion Cortazzo, Joan Acuna and Kathleen Rinaldi; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Ronald McGarry and by his sister, the late Lorraine DAmore.

Funeral Thursday at 9AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral Mass 10AM St. Michael's Church, Lyndhurst. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday 4-8PM. Send condolences to stellatofuneralhomes.com
