John Rowe

John Rowe, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021. Beloved son of Annie (nee Mullins) & the late Walter "Hawk" Rowe. Dear brother of the late Sheila Rowe. Loving uncle of John & his wife Gosia Rowe. Cherished granduncle of Daniel Rowe. Over his 45 year career with The Record, John worked as a beat writer, columnist and assignment editor. He covered such iconic events as the NBA Championships, World Series, Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, The Kentucky Derby, Championship Boxing and the NCAA Final Four. He was a member of The Heisman Memorial Trophy Committee and a Lifetime Honorary Member of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. In 2012, he appeared in the ESPN films documentary of Chuck Wepner, The Real Rocky. Funeral Service Wednesday 11:30AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Interment Hillside Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday 9:30-11:30AM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Benedict's Prep, 520 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd, Newark NJ 07102.
