John Sabbak

John Sabbak, 91, of Fairfield, New Jersey passed peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, July 15, 2023. Beloved husband for 63 years of Patricia(nee Pranio) Sabbak. Loving father of Karen & her husband Stephen Sikra, John & his wife Marisa Sabbak, and Gregg & his wife Gail Sabbak. Cherished grandfather of Christopher & his wife Kylee Sikra, Catherine & her husband Dylan Henderson, Michael Sikra, Dr. Julianna & her husband Parker Smith, Gina Sabbak, John V. Sabbak, Jennifer Sabbak, Melissa Sabbak, & Gregory Sabbak. Adored great-grandfather of Abriella, Hensley, & Anastasia. Cherished brother of the late Basil, Joey, & Marie.   Dear brother-in-law of Joyce and Richard Cimera, Jacqueline and Robert Swiatek. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  John served as Airman Second Class in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Alaska. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor of Science before receiving a Master of Arts at Paterson State University, and a Master's Degree in Education plus 60 from Seton Hall University. Mr. Sabbak was a Teacher with the Cedar Grove Public School System for 31 years before retiring in 1993, but he couldn't leave his passion for teaching and continuing substituting for 20 years. He was an active member of the Cedar Grove Recreation Department and Historical Society. John was an active parishioner at Notre Dame Church. Friends will be received Thursday, July 20 from 9 - 10:30AM at the Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Ave., North Caldwell followed by at 10:30AM Mass. Entombment Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum.
