Joseph G. Jackson

December 11, 1954 — January 22, 2013

Joseph G. Jackson of Lyndhurst, died Jan. 22, 2013 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York, N.Y., after a brief illness. He was 58. He was born in Jersey City to Herbert J. and Jeanne (Kelly) Jackson, who are now deceased. He grew up in North Bergen, attended St. Joseph's of the Palisades parish elementary and high schools, and was a 1976 graduate of St. Peter's College. Joe was beloved by his large family and many friends for never refusing to help when he could. He loved movies and music, and when he wasn't prowling through a rack of discount DVDs, he was blowing his trumpet at a rented hall, a bar in North Jersey or down the Shore, or even a friend's son's Eagle Scout ceremony. He belonged to many bands, sometimes simultaneously, including Finish This, Dubious Soul, and Nocturnal Blue. For more than 35 years, he worked at Hapag Lloyd America, most recently as operations manager in Piscataway. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Henry Jackson; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Henry; two sisters, Jeanne Pasko Monroe and her husband, Chet Monroe, and Lauri Jackson Landau, all of Warren, Vt.; three brothers, Paul J. Jackson and his wife, Angela Jackson, of Montclair, Gerard T. Jackson of Ridgefield Park, and Herb Jackson and his wife, Karen Jackson, of Washington, D.C.; two aunts, Mary Jackson of Hasbrouck Heights and Anne Kelly of Wayne; a niece and four nephews. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 8 at St. Joseph's of the Palisades, West New York. Cremation will be private. Arrangements under the direction of Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association 1600 Route 22 East Union, NJ 07083.

Entombment of ashes will be Saturday, May 17, 2014 11:30 AM at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
