Joseph R Caruso

Caruso, Joseph R. (Pop-Pop), 84, of East Rutherford, NJ formerly of Jersey City and Wilkes-Barre, PA, on Friday, March 12, 2010. Beloved husband of Grace (nee Alfonso) Caruso. Loving father of Richard & his wife Maria Caruso, Joseph A. Caruso and the late Maria Caruso Campo. Dear brother of Barbara Santeramo and the late Nancy Colino. Cherished grandfather of Michael. Before retiring in 1990, Mr. Caruso was a shop teacher at the Bergen County Voc-Tech School in Teterboro. Previously he had worked for Keuffel & Esser Co. of Hoboken for 20 years in engineering. He was an Army 8th Air Force Veteran of World War II and a life member of VFW Post 8374 of East Rutherford. He was a graduate of Fairleigh-Dickinson University and attended Montclair State University where he earned his teacher certification. Mr. Caruso was a former board member and president of the East Rutherford Board of Education, a former member of the Carlstadt-East Rutherford Regional Board of Education, a member of the East Rutherford Redevelopment Agency since 1981, a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program as an elementary school reading aide, a member of the NEA and the NJREA Teachers Assoc. He received the Governors Teacher Recognition Award in 1988. Funeral Tuesday 11AM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
