Katherine Ladanyi, ne Unger Katalin, passed away at home on May 3, 2020.
Married to the late Dr Frederick Ladanyi (2006), on July 29, 1939 in Budapest, Hungary Loving mother of Catherine Vajtay, ne Ladanyi Katalin and the late Nicholas, who at 10 months succumbed to an ear infection, for lack of Penicillin.
Adored grandmother of, Laszlo Vajtay, Susie Vajtay, Cathy (Vajtay) Segalla, Nicky Vajtay, Elizabeth Vajtay, Christina Vajtay. Beloved great grandmother of Emily Smith Sangster, Christopher Smith, Michael Smith; Robbie Segalla, Lexie Segalla; Nicholas Vajtay, Matthew Vajtay.
Katherine is the first in her family history to celebrate 100 years and beyond.
Born in Szatmrnmeti, Hungary, (now Romania), February 12, 1918, the youngest of 5 children. Educated at Tanitkpz Intzet (Teachers College) in Budapest
Katherine left Hungary with her husband and daughter as the Russians were advancing during WWII, escaping to Austria. In 1948 they immigrated to the UK where Katherine worked in a doctors office as an assistant, and eventually to America in 1953. She worked with a textile firm for a few years and later was employed by Citibank as a Data Entry Clerk in the Accounting & Control unit until she retired in 1980. They moved to Englewood Cliffs in 1964, from Queens, NY.
