MIKATARIAN, Ken "Digger", age 73, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends on Saturday July 15, 2017. Originally from Weehawken, his family later moved to Fort Lee where he established residency. After graduating Fort Lee High School, Ken continued his education at Long Island University and the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City. Ken was an active member of the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1971.
Ken was a licensed funeral director for over 50 years. His long and decorated career within the funeral industry began in Union City at Nekar Sharp Funeral Home and Leber Funeral Home. For over 10 years Ken served numerous families within the Heus Funeral Home in Fort Lee which became the Patti-Mikatarian Funeral Home in 1980. He was owner/partner there for 24 years before dissolving the partnership. In 2005, he continued his career servicing families at the Hunt Stellato Funeral Home in Fort Lee as Executive Vice President. Ken's expertise and compassion earned him a well-respected reputation within his community.
Ken was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Fort Lee Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Lee Kiwanis club and an active member of St. Michael's Church in Palisades Park. Ken was most recognized for his time volunteered with the Fort Lee Fire Department. Ken unselfishly volunteered over 52 years to Company #4 in the Fort Lee Fire Department, serving all ranks including Lieutenant and captain. Ken was also awarded the Lifetime Honorary Chief status through the department after his 50 plus years of service to his community.
Beloved husband of Annabelle (nee Casbar) for over 40 years. Loving father of Anthony Mikatarian & his wife Jackie (nee Sudano) and Kristin Mikatarian-Forsdahl. Cherished grandfather of Kayla Ann, Victoria Grace, Isabella Sophia and Peter Kenneth. Dear brother of June St. Clair and Ronald Mikatarian and brother-in-law of Diane Mikatarian and the later Richard St. Clair, Constance and Jean Mikatarian. Also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and life long friends. Ken will always be remembered for his kind and compassionate ways, for his total service to his community and for his total love and commitment to his family.
