Merse, Lawrence, 81, of Neptune City, NJ (formerly of Edgewater) on April 2, 2009 surrounded by his immediate family. He was a man who worked hard, played hard, adored his family, enjoyed life, and more importantly, appreciated every aspect of it. His quick wit and countless sayings were his trademark. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Beloved husband of Alberta (nee DeBernardi) & the late Edna (nee Campbell) who predeceased him in 1982. Loving father of Lawrence & his wife Kathleen, Michael & his wife Angelina, Steven & his wife Karen, Russell, Anthony & his wife the late Debi, & Mary Elizabeth Van Tassel & her husband Tony. Dear brother of Margaret Kempson, the late Edward & his wife Nancy Merse, the late James & Robert. Cherished grandfather of Kevin, Ryan, Eric, Christopher, Matthew, Michael Jr., Alexis, Vanessa, Russell Jr. Nikole, Melanie, & Chelsea. Also surviving are many nieces & nephews. Lawrence was a firefighter for the Boro of Edgewater, NJ for over 30 years he was the owner of Merse Brothers Trucking Company, a WWII Navy veteran & a member of the VFW in Edgewater & Manasquan. Funeral Tuesday 9AM from the Hunt Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisade Avenue, Fort Lee, NJ. Funeral Mass 10AM at Holy Rosary Church, Edgewater. Cremation at East Ridgelawn Crematory, Clifton, Friends will be received Monday 2-4 & 7-9PM. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his name to the Salvation Army.
