Lawrence Gustav Garling

Lawrence Gustav Garling, 66, of Fairfield, NJ passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012. Beloved husband and best friend of Janet Ann (nee Steinwand) Garling. Loving father of Lawrence Garling III, Heather & her husband Jon Hopkins, Jamie Lynn Garling and the late Jason Anthony Garling, stepfather of Gerald Buglione, Jr. and Jennifer Buglione, and father-in-law of Melissa Garling. Dear brother of Tom Garling and Roberta Gibson. Cherished grandfather of Isabella Louise Buglione, Bryce Logan Hopkins, Gianna Lynn Garling and Grady Jordan Hopkins. Larry was born October 2, 1945. He graduated Christian Brothers University in 1968 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Larry began his 43 year career in the Trident Bassistic Missile Program with General Electric progressing to a position at Kearfott Guidance and Navigation as a Systems Engineer. Realizing his valued contributions were not complete Larry went to Charles Stark Draper Laboratory as a Program Manager, Test Engineering. Larry's contributions culminated in the establishment and qualification of the Integrated Support Facility in Pittsfield, MA. Larry's legacy will be known as the ISF enabler resulting in a world class facility ensuring that high quality guidance systems are produced to support our Nations Strategic deterrent for generations to come. When Larry was not engaged in his work he was often spending time with his family and friends. He listened to challenges of others and offered advice whenever he could. He expected nothing in return other then trust, friendship and a smile. In his social circle Larry's standout announcements such as "Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to propose a toast" and sport challenges such as "Rack 'Em!" will be remembered always. Larry will be truly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Friday at 10 AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. Funeral Mass 11 AM St. Thomas More R.C. Church. Cremation private. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Isabella Louise Buglione, 200 Big Piece Road, Fairfield NJ 07004.
