Louis F. Gallo, 87, of North Arlington, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday.
Devoted husband of Dolores, devoted son of the late Louise (nee Consulmagno). Beloved father of his son Marc Gallo & his wife Marie. Cherished grandfather of Melissa Gallo and Alexa Gallo. Louis was predeceased by his three beloved siblings, Angela & her husband Vitale (Vito) Esposito, Henry (Hank) Gallo & his wife Ceilia, and Joseph Gallo & his wife Ailene. Dear brother-in-law of the late Jean NIcoletti (nee Mancino) & Concetta (Connie) (nee Mancino) and the late Robert Mancino & his wife Sandy. Adored uncle to many loving nieces & nephews. Respected Retired Building Trades Union Leader to many Trades people throughout the USA. Louis Gallo had a very accomplished life, born and raised in Jersey City, NewJersey, he and his brothers played every sport known to man. He was proud to serve his Country in the Korean War, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 17 in 1952 and after completing Fighter Jet Mechanic School in San Antonio, TX he served a 13 month tour at K-5 Airfield north of Taegu, Korea. He gained the title of Jet Crew Chief even though he was only an Airman 2nd Class. Louis received all theatre service awards and foreign decorations for his service. He completed his active duty in April 1956, and served in the Air Force Reserves until his Honorable discharge in 1960. Louis Gallo became a Cement Finisher Apprentice in 1956 and had a productive career as a Tradesman with the OPCMIA Local 29 of Jersey City, NJ. He retired as Business Agent for Local 29 in 2006, and also as a Vice President of the New Jersey State Building & Construction Trades Council. He loyally and honestly served the membership as a young union trustee fighting for workers rights and fair wages and benefits. As a beloved grandpa, he enjoyed being at every softball and basketball game to cheer for his granddaughters, he was very proud to see them become the accomplished young women that they have become. He is a benchmark of a life well lived. Funeral Wednesday 10AM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral Mass 11Am St. Michael's R.C. Church. Entombment Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum. Friends will be recived Tuesday 2-4 and 6-9PM. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
