Margherita Grieco

Margherita Bufo-Grieco, of Beach Haven Gardens (LBI) NJ, passed away May 15, 2022 at the age of 97 with family by her side.
She was born to the late Francesco Bufo and Serafina Morro Bufo, January 29, 1925, in Cerignola, Italy.

She lived through, depression, WW2, the loss of child and many other hardships but endured with great resilience. After the war Margherita married the late Luigi Antonio Grieco in 1946 having 4 children with sadly the loss of daughter Rita Grieco in 1953 before immigrating with the family to America 1955 and settling on the lower East Side, NYC where she had two more children. After several years moving to East Rutherford, NJ and eventually Beach Haven Gardens, NJ for the past 30 years. Margherita was predeceased by her loving husband Luigi in 1986.

Margherita is survived by five children and their spouses: Annette Grieco NJ, Nick Grieco & April of NJ; Frank Grieco & Chris of Maryland, Sadie Mondo & Sal of NJ and Jerry Grieco of South Carolina. She also had ten grandchildren, Florina Grieco, Nicoleta Grieco, Marissa Grieco, Alex Grieco, Kristina Mondo, Laura Mondo, Lisa Lombardi, Michael Grieco, Gina Holman, Angela Afonso ,14 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-granddaughter. She is also survived by many Bufo and Grieco family of nieces, nephews and cousins residing in Cerignola and other areas of Italy.


She lived her life every day giving all her love unconditionally to family and friends. Known as Mom, Grams, Nonna and Margherita but most of all "Grandma" to all. She was the matriarch of the family leaving an everlasting love in the hearts of all who knew her. Her great joy was cooking and feeding her family and friends. Her cooking was unparalleled and her traditional recipes continue on with the next generations.

There are not enough words that can be said or describe what a loving and giving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Margherita was to her all family and friends from LBI to Italy, she was the Matriarch and forever in the hearts of her family.

Family and friends will be received Thursday May 19th, 4-8PM Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst. Funeral Service Friday 11AM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Flr. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
