Maria Hsieh

Maria Hsieh, 84, of Montville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with family at her side on December 4, 2022. Born in Shanghai, China, Maria relocated to Taiwan and attended the Taiwan National University. In 1961, Maria immigrated to the United States with a small suitcase, a big heart, and her boundless perseverance. After earning an MBA degree from Vanderbilt University, and a brief stint in Lexington, Kentucky, Maria settled down in New Jersey with her beloved husband John. She enjoyed a 33-year career with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), retiring as an Assistant Dean at the UMDNJ Nursing School in 2002. Maria was equal parts generous and caring, smart and tough, and fair and compassionate. Maria and her family traveled often, visiting countless destinations in the U.S. and abroad. She cherished spending time with friends and family, taking long walks, reading, and preparing noodles and Shanghainese dumplings, two of her favorite foods. We will love and miss Mama always. Maria is survived by her beloved husband John, son Christopher, granddaughter Isabella, and her siblings Julia Mar, Anna Cheng, James Cheng and William Cheng. Marias family expresses its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Ana, Judy, and Carmen, who provided her with loving care and comfort during her courageous battle with Alzheimers disease. Visitation to be held at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield, New Jersey 07004, Wednesday, December 7, 3-6PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Miracle Walk, an annual event which benefits the St. Barnabas Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
