Marie C. Mion, 88, passed away on January 16, 2016 peacefully at home at Brookdale Deane Hill in Knoxville, TN, where she recently moved to be close to her niece Diana. Marie had been a lifelong resident of Lyndhurst, NJ prior to moving to Crestwood Manor in Whiting three years ago. Marie dedicated much of her young life to caring for her parents and earned her teaching degree later in life (1970) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She taught elementary school children for over 20 years at the Jefferson School in Lyndhurst. After retirement, Marie volunteered for many years at Clara Maass Hospital and was also a member of the Gray Lady Society in her younger years. Marie was predeceased by her parents Theresa (DeMarco) & Louis Mion who was a prominent Lyndhurst Tile Contractor, her sister Yolanda Gerard, brother-in-law Major General Francis R. Gerard and sister-in-law Judy Mion. She is survived by her devoted companion of many decades, Cliff Oxland also formerly of Lyndhurst and his daughter Barbara Ruggiero (Frank) of Waretown, NJ; her loving brother Roy Mion (Georgene) of Gibsonia, PA; eight nieces and nephews, David Gerard of Newark, NJ, Diana Lobertini (Steve) of Knoxville, TN, Donald Gerard (Margo) of Wall Township, NJ, Daria Gerard (Michael Onorato) of Burlington, NJ, Cathy Mion (Chuck Baleno) of Export, PA, Tina Chutz (Michael) of Sewickley, PA, Lisa Kushner (Rich) of Wexford, PA and Laura Dougherty (Rob) of Wexford, PA. Marie also had several grandnieces and nephews, Stacey, Brian, Adam, Jeremy, Haley, Maggie, Buck, Jenna, Danny, Ben, Kearsie, Calene, Kevin & Christopher. She also had many cousins and second cousins. Marie had no children of her own but showed continual love and care for her extended family. Funeral Tuesday 10AM with a period of eulogy commencing at 10AM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ. Funeral Mass 11AM Sacred Heart R.C. Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choosing or Catholic Relief Services, http://www.crs.org.
