Mark Allen Desotto

Mark DeSotto, age 63, of Palisades Park passed away April 6, 2020. Loving husband to his wife Helen DeSotto. He was born on June 21, 1956 to the parents of Francis (predeceased March 31, 2020) and Dorothy. Devoted father to Chris and his wife Grace, Debbie and her husband Tyron, Michael and James. Loving Grandpa of Alexis, Jayden, Noah, Dante, Hailey, Avery, Kylee, Jordan and Tijay. He was one of 5 children. Siblings Dianne and her husband Nick, Lisa and her husband Michael, Sally and Kim. He was very close with his brother-in-law Chris Irons and father-in-law Raymond Irons. He leaves behind many other close family members including sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and two godchildren for whom he cared a great deal.

Mark was a Navy Veteran who served from 1974 to 1978. He retired from AT&T after almost 40 years. He loved animals and enjoyed helping people. Most of all he enjoyed giving back to his community by donating his time and efforts by helping in different ways including becoming a big brother mentor, as well as building and maintaining a feral cat colony. He took pleasure feeding the cats while he sat on a bench talking with friends. He volunteered as a Domestic Violence Counselor for over 15 years within 40 towns and was on the Palisades Park Board of Health for 15 years of which he received an award in December 2018. He was a Boy Scout leader for over 15 years in Palisades Park and donated 2 years of his time to the Planning Board committee in town. He was on the Environmental Commission and volunteered to help with every project, Tree Plantings, Storm Drain markers and Earth Day Essay Contest just to name a few.
