Born in Bogota, Colombia to Leonor Gomez and Jose Del Carmen Gomez, my mommy, Mary Aragon is one of seven siblings. Love for family, hard work, commitment, kindness and selflessness were qualities she learned early on in her life. They are attributes she passed on to me, her only daughter Mabel Pilar Aragon. My extraordinary mom worked as a nurse aide for over 20 years. She loved music, particularly tunes by Marc Anthony and Camilo Sesto. She came to this country as a result of a contest that she won. Mom was one of approximately 12 children who happen to pick the lucky bottle cap that landed her a trip to California. A few years later, her mom nudged her to give the U.S. a try. She did and went on to become a proud citizen, often buying keepsakes with the American flag. My mom had a heart of gold, always thinking of others and seeking ways that would bring someone a smile or support when in need. My mom and I had an unbreakable bond and had the pleasure of enjoying trips to Las Vegas, where she cheered me on during performances, California when I was exploring a dream, and Hawaii where I got to celebrate one of her birthdays. She loved musical theater and encouraged me to explore the arts. My mommy physically left me just moments after I finished singing her a song. Her spirit is now a permanent part of my being. I am so proud to call her my mom. My dad, Henry Aragon, my fianc Edwin Lebron and her extended family will miss her dearly; however, she will always remain in our hearts.
