Mildred L. Traister

November 1, 1916 — February 27, 2006

Mildred L. Traister (nee Liddick), age 89, died at home in Fairfield on February 27, 2006. Born in Williamsport, PA on November 1, 1916, she lived in Zolfo Springs, FL before moving to Fairfield 11 years ago where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law Terry and Albert Centonze, her grandchldren and great-grandchildren. A graduate of Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing in 1935, she worked as a nurse for over 20 years, retiring in 1978. Mildred was a member of the American Kennel Club and she showed her Boxers in PA and FL. Mildred, or Grandma, as she was called by many, had two passions in life. One was for animals, the other was writing. She groomed dogs for many years, even until November of 2005, and wrote poems to all the dogs she promised to see on Rainbow Ridge, when they meet again. She also wrote a book, "Unburned Bridges", which is being published. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to Silas Ashmore D.V.M. of Fairfield, to pay for medical care for the pets of owners who are unable to bear the costs. She is the beloved mother of Terry Centonze with whom she lived in Fairfield and Fred E. Traister of Climax, NC. She is survived by her dear sister LaRana Hanford of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is the loving grandmother of Kimberly Hamker, Albert Centonze, Michael Traister, Natalie Seller and Carrie-Jo Mitchell and cherished great-grandmother of Brittany, Kourtney, & D.J. Hamker, Anthony Centonze, & Dylan Traister. Friends will be recieved Thursday 7-9pm with a Memorial Service at 8pm at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home 7 Two Bridges Rd., Fairfield. Cremation was private. Donations may be made to Atlantic Home Care and Hospice, 33 Bleeker St., Millburn, NJ 07041.
