Schauer, Peter “Pete”
Peter Anthony Schauer, known to friends as "Pete" of Fairfield, New Jersey passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018, at the age of 87, in his home in Murrells Inlet, SC, with loved ones by his side.

A native of Greenwich Village, New York, Pete was born in the midst of the depression, May 1, 1931, on Sullivan Street to John and Rosa (Vivaldi) Schauer. After finishing high School, Pete joined the National Guard, before being drafted by the Army during the Korean War. After honorably serving his country, Pete returned home and enrolled in college. He received his Bachelors degree from The College of The City of New York in Mechanical Engineering, class of 59. One day after graduation, on June 20, 1959, Pete married Patricia Clancy, also of New York, whom he remained happily married to until his death. He continued his education at CCNY, completing his Masters in Mechanical Engineering, during nights, in 1963. He started his engineering career at Bendix, and eventually moved to Kearfott Guidance & Navigation, where he spent 38 years, developing lifelong friendships, until his retirement in 1996. Pete moved his family to Fairfield, New Jersey in 1966, where the family was raised, and the household remained for the next 52 years. He was an avid runner, a history buff, and the undefeated pull up champion among the Schauer men, as well as unbeatable in ping pong and arm wrestling. Spending most of his weekends tinkering around the house and fixing all the cars being neglected by his four children, he also enjoyed reading, exercising, wood working, and time with his children and grandchildren.

Peter is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 59 years, his four children, Karen Buchholz and husband Scott, Kevin Schauer and wife Teresa, Patti (Schauer) Dow, Peter John Schauer and wife Jeni, as well as his six grandchildren, Brianna, Courtney, Kelli, Tayler, Peter and Matthew. Also his sister Renata (Schauer) Koster.

A celebration of Petes life will be held Sunday 3-7PM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield, NJ, 07004. A church service the following day 11AM at St. Thomas More Church, 12 Hollywood Avenue, Fairfield, NJ, burial at St. Marys Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY

As final request on Petes behalf, the Schauer family asks: “In lieu of sending flowers, tune-up your car, check your oil, and check the air pressure in your tires - Pete would have wanted it that way.”
