Lamendola, Philip John, 89, passed to the hands of the lord on Feb. 13 at the Veteran's' Memorial Home in Paramus. Born in Hoboken, Phil was a longtime resident of Rutherford before moving to the mountains of Upstate New York in Gilbertsville. Phil was a Navy man and mountain man, having served in World War II in his early life and spending his latter years among the beautiful woods of the Butternut Valley. Phil served our country in the Navy on the U.S.S. Gilbert Islands escort carrier in the South Pacific. He later worked for 30 years at the Minck Beverage Co. in Paramus. He had a thirst for knowledge and continuously read, stimulating those around him with conversations about what he learned. Phil is predeceased by his wife Theresa (nee Starita). Survived by sisters Virginia Sansevere and Sister Maria Cordis Lamendola, daughter Joanne and husband Ralph; son Mark and wife Gerry; grandchildren Maria, Jennifer, Matthew, Melissa, Michael; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Anthony, Nicholas, and Vincent; and many loving nieces and nephews. Friends and family are welcome to a viewing at Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst on Monday, Feb. 15 from 6-9 PM. A service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 324 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst at 11AM.
