Phyllis H. Epifanio

Phyllis H. Epifanio (nee Horne), 93, of Fairfield, NJ on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Beloved wife of the late Gerald Epifanio. Loving mother of Philip Epifanio of Fairfield and the late Neal Epifanio. Dear sister-in-law of Eleanor Epifanio. Cherished grandmother of Terri Lynn Epifanio. Adored great-grandmother of Lauren and Tyler. Also survived by her niece Barbara Jones and nephews Donald Horne and Raymond Epifanio. Mrs. Epifanio was a Registered Nurse with West Essex Nursing Service for 37 years before retiring in 1985. She graduated from East Side High School in Paterson in 1934 and St. Barnabas School of Nursing in 1937. Prior to enlisting in the US Army in 1942 where she was an OR Nurse, she worked at St. Barnabas Hospital in Newark. She also worked in Essex Mt. Sanitarium in Verona and Dover General Hospital. When relieved from active duty in the Army, she had attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. Religious service Sunday at 5pm at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. Cremation will be private. Burial with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Friends will be received Sunday 4-6pm.
