Ralston B. Russell

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Ralston B. Russell (Giby) following a period of declining health. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on November 17, 2022. Giby was born on October 13, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Ralston W. Russell, Jr. & Mary (Murphy) Russell. He was educated at Mt. St. Joseph's High School, Loyola College (Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities) and did graduate studies at Princeton University. Giby was the beloved husband of Lois Dietz for 66 years; she survives at home. He was the proud father of seven children: Karen Becker (Dale), Greg (Annmarie), David (Sonya), Mary Morgan (Randall), Robert, Thomas (Ginny), and Edward; grandfather to Andrew, Sue, Alex, Zach, Christina, Jennifer, Steven, Andrea, Rachel, Sarah, TJ and Samantha along with eleven great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Richard Russell of Catonsville, Maryland along with nieces and nephews. Giby had a long career working as a metallurgist in the steel industry in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. He was a wine enthusiast and kept a well curated wine collection in his custom made wine cellar at his home. He enjoyed many good times with family and friends both at home and on summer trips to beach vacations on the Jersey shore and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Giby was a man of incomparable character and integrity. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by those he befriended and loved. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More R.C. Church in Fairfield, New Jersey on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11AM.
