Rocco J. Amatuzzo

Rocco J. Amatuzzo , 89, of East Rutherford, NJ formerly of Jersey City, NJ, on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Beloved husband of Petrina L. (nee Dorio) Amatuzzo. Cherished son of the late Paul & Rosalie Amatuzzo. Loving father of Douglas Amatuzzo & his wife Carol Housell, Linda Amatuzzo, Paul Amatuzzo, and the late Janet Amatuzzo. Dear brother of Mary Granato, Florence Vaccaro, Josephine & Joseph DeMario, and the late Paul Amatuzzo & Nancy Stabile. Adored brother-in-law of Catherine Amatuzzo. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Mr. Amatuzzo was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army's 1st infantry, 16th division which landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was a POW and received the Five Bronze Star Ribbon and the Purple Heart. Rocco worked as a manager at Rubin Stationary in NYC for over 20 years before becoming the service station manager at Merit Oil Company. He loved the Brooklyn Dodgers and later became an avid Mets fan. He also bowled every week for the past 70 years. He spent much of his free time at the racetrack with friends playing the ponies, or playing cards. Funeral Saturday 9:30AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ. Funeral Mass Saturday 11AM Holy Rosary Church. Interment Holy Name Cemetery. Friends will be received Friday 2-9 PM.
