Rosario F. "Charo" Corredera, 91, of Edgewater, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 quietly and gracefully at Little Brook Nursing & Convalescent Home in Califon, NJ. Beloved daughter of the late Manuel Fernandez Sarrasi & Patrocinio Corredera Gonzalez of Madrid, Spain. Endeared sister of Raquel (living Spain) and Manuel, Roberto, Raul, Renato, Patrocinio, Rolando & Rene (all deceased). A cherished aunt and great aunt of the "Fernandez y Corredera" family and "adopted" aunt of the Hampilos family. A United States citizen, Rosario was a citizen of the world. She was born in Aravaca, Spain and subsequently emigrated to Cuba with her parents and siblings in 1939. She graduated from the Havana Business Academy where she later taught English & Business. Cuba was her temporary home but held a permanent place in her heart. In 1952 she emigrated to Washington DC where her brother Roberto was attached to the Embassy of Cuba as Assistant Naval Attach. For 35 years Rosario was employed by the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), a branch of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC. She retired as the Civilian Personnel Officer in 1988. During her tenure with the IADB Rosario was awarded the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Civilian Service. She attended adult education at The Catholic University and was a tireless advocate of the Catholic Church, where she served as a long-time volunteer of St. Matthew's Cathedral and of the Spanish Catholic Center where she was a Board Member. Rosario was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Edgewater, NJ and a beloved friend to many in Waterford Towers. She blessed us with her love of God, church, children and service and she will be missed by all. Funeral Thursday 9 AM from the Hunt Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisade Avenue, Fort Lee. Funeral Mass 10 AM Holy Rosary R.C. Church. Entombment Madonna Mausoleum. Friends will be received Wednesday 4-8 PM.
