Stephen J. Filipow, 83, of Fairfield, New Jersey on Thursday May 18, 2017. Beloved husband of Claire (nee Ferrary) Filipow. Loving father of Steve & his wife Dena Filipow, Linda Filipow, Dee & her husband Jim McNamara, Barbara & her husband Rick Rapier, and Lt. Rich (FFPD) & his wife Janet Filipow. Cherished grandfather of Kelly, Thomas, Matthew, John, Stephanie, Danielle, Robert, Paul, Noelle, & Luke. Dear brother of John & his wife Nancy Filipow and the late Daniel Filipow and Dolores Connell. Mr. Filipow was a Sgt. in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War from 1954-1957 and was a member of VFW Post 7925. Chief Filipow worked for the Fairfield Police Department for 31 years, and was chief from 1988-1993. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy in 1975 and an active member of the Police Chiefs Association. Chief Filipow was an active parishioner at St. Thomas More Church where he was an usher for many years. Funeral Monday 8:30AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. Funeral Mass 10AM St. Thomas More Church. Entombment Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum. Friends will be received Sunday 1 - 4PM & 6 - 9PM.
