Stephen W. Horkay, 96, passed away on October 2, 2015, peacefully, loved, and at home. Stephen, who his family called "Pop", began life in Brooklyn, NY, grew up in Montclair, NJ, and lived in Fairfield, NJ for the past 64 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the second World War in England and North Africa. A devotee of aviation, Pop acquired a private pilot's license in 1970 and flew into his 80's. He was a Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 35 years until he retired. a noted Democrat since his high school yearbook, Pop was outraged when he saw social injustice and always rooted for the underdog, both in life and in his beloved baseball and other sports. Pop was a friendly, loving, good man who was always loyal and supportive to his daughters, nieces, nephews, and as his family grew, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and in-laws. He would not miss a band concert, soccer game, football game, or any other family event. He was there for the fun times and the sad times. Stephen is predeceased by his loving wife J. Rosemary Horkay (nee Sulpy), his parents Stephen J. & Mary (nee Tartarka) Horkay; four siblings, Marie Gardner, Rita Hoffman, Joseph Horkay, and Theresa Regan; a son-in-law, Warren Baas; and a grandson-in-law, John Patrick Clark. He is survived by his four daughters, Rosemary Horkay, Joan Bojsza (and her husband Walter), Kathleen Baas (and her husband Jerry Stropnicky), and Carol Lewis (and her husband Robert); six grandchildren, Mary Hoskins-Clark, Matthew Hoskins (and wife Holly), Elizabeth Bojsza (and her husband Jeff Langraf), Katherine Bojsza (and her husband Nicholas Colello), Diane Baas, and William Stropnicky; and seven great-grandchildren: Katie, Sarah, Julia, Emma, James, Miles & Ellis. Funeral Saturday 9AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 12 Hollywood Avenue, Fairfield. Interment will take place following the Mass at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover. Friends will be received Friday 4-8PM.
