Susan Bommelyn Schroter (Sue B), age 67, was born on May 1, 1953, and was a longtime resident of Haledon, NJ, and most recently, Rochelle Park, NJ. Susan passed peacefully at her sister, Edies, home on May 26, 2020, after beating COVID-19 and a long battle with cancer.
She attended Manchester Regional High School in Haledon, graduating in 1971. One of the familys favorite memories included her being crowned “Miss Manchester” during her senior year of high school. After graduation, Susan began a 30+ year career in banking until she transitioned into healthcare, where she enjoyed bringing smiles and joy to many patients. Susan was not a person to be idle. In semi-retirement, she spent her final working days at a fun-filled recreational center in Paramus, where she continued to share her outgoing personality until her cancer returned.
Susan loved spending time with family. Her infectious smile and fun-loving personality were a staple at our gatherings. Susan enjoyed bowling, relaxing in the sun, and especially time spent at the Jersey Shore. She also enjoyed summer days at her sisters pool, which she and Paul jokingly referred to as “The Crestwood Country Club.” Before her husband passed, Susan and Paul enjoyed many happy days vacationing at Sanibel Island. Susan was an avid animal lover and cherished her furbabies, Chloe and Shadow.
Susan is survived by her son, Joseph Nestico and daughter-in-law, Heather Katz; stepdaughter, Stephanie Schroter and stepson, Dylan St. John. Susan was the youngest of her siblings. She leaves three sisters, Carol Nightingale and her husband Ron; Edie Zarillo and her husband Jay; and Geri Genario. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews, who all held a special place in her life and heart. Susan also leaves many dear and treasured friends. Susan will be dearly missed!
Susan was preceded in death by her parents: Sue (Pagnillo) Bommelyn and James Bommelyn of Haledon; and her late husband, Paul Schroter, formerly of Hawthorne, NJ.
New Jersey Rett Syndrome Association (NJRSA) is a non-profit organization that was close to Susans heart because her niece, Dena, is afflicted with the illness. If you would like to donate in Susans memory, please send a check to NJRSA at 417 Brickyard Road, Freehold, NJ 07728, or visit the website at njrsa.org.
