Theodore Nalesnik died on August 26, 2003 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston at the age of 76. Born in Passaic, he lived in Clifton and moved to Fairfield in 1957. He was a Quality Control Engineer for Singer Kearfott, West Paterson for 24 years, retiring in 1993. Prior employment included Curtiss Wright, Bendix, ITT, and Thomas Electronics. Ted was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Prior to that he served in the Merchant Marines. Ted was very active in Fairfield for many years. He served as a Councilman from 1976 - 1979 and as Mayor from 1980 - 1988. He was instrumental in building the Fairfield Pio Costa Library. He has served as a Fairfield Public Library Board of Trustee 1976-1979 and 1986-1988. Ted was a member of the Fairfield Planning Board from 1971 - 1988, and the Two Bridges Sewer Authority from 1981 - 1985. He served on the West Essex Campus of Essex County College Advisory Board from 1986 to the present where he established a scholarship for Fairfield students. Ted was a member of the West Essex Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 1982 - 1988. The Fairfield Business Industries named him as their Man of the Year in 1988. Other memberships include the Fairfield VFW, the Athenia Veterans Post of Clifton, and an honorary member of the Fairfield Fire Dept. Ted also spent a great deal of his time managing in the Fairfield Little League. A 1970 graduate of FDU, Ted received his BS in Industrial Engineering.
Surviving are his wife, Mae (nee Pedevillano), two sons John of Philadelphia, PA and Theodore of West Lampeter, PA, and a daughter, Beth Bozzo of Clinton, NJ. A brother Harry of Clifton, a sister Mary Zabchin of Waldorf, MD are also surviving. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, John, George, and William and a sister Anne Oberlik. He was the cherished grandfather of Oliva and Connor Bozzo and Andrew Nalesnik.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at 10am at the St. Thomas More RC Church in Fairfield. Cremation and Interment will be private. Friends will be received at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home 7 Two Bridges Rd. Fairfield on Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm. Donations may be made to St. Barnabas Hospice & Palliative Care Center 187 Millburn Suite 102, Millburn, NJ or Theodore Nalesnik Scholarship Fund, Essex County College, 730 Bloomfield Ave., West Essex, NJ.
