Theodore O. Osback, Sr

Theodore O. Osback, Sr. age 82 died on November 11, 2003 at the New Jersey Firemen's Home in Boonton. Mr. Osback was born in Lyndhurst and lived most of his life there before moving to Florida for 22 years and then to the NJ Fireman's Home. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed by the Township of Lyndhurst and was a foreman in the Department of Public Works Water Dept. for 27 years. Mr. Osback was a member of the Lyndhurst Volunteer Fire Department Valley Brook Engine Company #1 for 31 years and served as Chief in 1964. His father Oscar served as a Lyndhurst Fire Chief in 1916 and his son Teddy, Jr served as Fire Chief in 1982 and 1985. Theodore was a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association, the NJ State Fire Chief's Association and the South Bergen Fire Chief's Mutual Aid Association. As a member of the Adoniram-Highland Wakefield-Rising Star Lodge #80 F & A.M. he served as it's Master in 1975. While living in Florida, Theodore was a member of the American Legion, the Neighborhood Watch, and a volunteer for the Blood Mobile. Mr Osback is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee Young) of Bayville, and two children Theodore Jr. of Cartaret and Dorothy Weinreich of Lyndhurst. He is also survived by a brother Edwin Osback of Whiting, a sister Winifred Mandel of PA and was pre-deceased by a sister Florence Plarre. He is the cherished grandfather of 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be on Friday at 10am from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home 425 Ridge Rd. Lyndhurst.
