Virginia Edith Hill

March 12, 1922 — June 20, 2016

Virginia Edith Hill (nee Goeckel) died peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2016 at age 94. Ginny was predeceased by her husband Woody and her siblings, Eleanor Shaw, Helen Mount and Frank Goeckel. Ginny is survived by her loving daughters, Diane Dunne & her husband Michael, Barbara Crump & her husband John, Lyn Corriere & her husband Richard. Eight grandchildren, Kim Redman and Ryan Gates, Lauren, Rebecca and Kevin Crump, Patrick Murphy, Isabella and Sophie Corriere. Four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trent Redman, Jack and Olivia Gates. Ginny was born in Orange, NJ in 1922. In her youth Ginny loved horseback riding and going to Lake Hopatcong and the Jersey shore. While working at NJ Bell in Newark, her best friend, Ruth Hill, introduced Ginny to her brother Woody Hill, a returning veteran of the Army Air Corps. They were married in 1946 and initially lived in East Orange before moving to West Orange then to West Caldwell where they enjoyed socializing at the local pool. For many summers the family vacationed at the Snow Dodger Motel in Hollywood, Florida. In later years, they enjoyed traveling to Europe and Alaska. Ginny was invariably kind and thoughtful. Caring for her husband and their three daughters was of utmost importance to her and she later gained a deserved reputation for spoiling her sons-in-law. She always had a fine fashion sense and spent many years in the retail clothing industry. She worked for Arnold Constable and Sterns before retiring at age 70 and volunteering at Willing Hearts in West Caldwell for many years. She and Woody moved to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains in 2003. She will be sorely missed by us all. Private cremation under the direction of Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield.
