William James Reilly

April 5, 1928 — October 10, 2017

William James Reilly, 89, of Fort Lee, New Jersey passed peacefully on October 10, 2017. Bill was a teacher and lifelong accomplished artist. After serving in the Army as an Official U.S. Army photographer, Bill received his MA in Art Education from New York University. He continued with his graduate studies at NYU and studied at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts. With his love for art and teaching combined Bill began his career, teaching at Memorial High School in West New York and at Los Angeles City College. He returned to New Jersey continuing a teaching career that included over 20 years at Teaneck High School. While at Teaneck High Bill was honored to receive the Princeton University Distinguished Teaching Award. At Teaneck Bill initiated the film program and was a coach for the women's fencing team. Bill took joy in being the director and scenic designer for the school 's musical productions. After retiring from teaching Bill used the inspiration from his world travels and his love of Broadway theatre to continue to create art and exhibit throughout the country. Bill is survived by his long time companion, Ann Sheehan, his former wife Doris Reilly and their children, Kathy Morrow of Rochelle Park & husband John; Brian Reilly of Los Angeles & wife Sacha; Kevin Reilly of Daytona Beach, and grandchildren Jasmine Reilly and John Morrow. Also his sister, Rosemarie Horan of Lewiston, Idaho and his brother Gene Reilly & wife Marlene of New York City. He was predeceased by his sister Catherine Caruso. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date. Donations in Bill's name can be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements under the direction of Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisade Avenue, Fort Lee NJ.
